Swine Flu Pandemic is Imminent,WHO says

Global health authorities have warned that the environment threatens to swine flu pandemic and the spread of the virus in Europe, as the outbreak appeared to stabilize at its epicenter. A child who died in Texas, became the first death in Mexico.

Mexico, taking a decisive step, as confirmed cases of swine flu doubled to 99, including eight deaths, has announced its intention to temporarily suspend all non-essential activities of the federal government and private companies with the May 1-5. Basic services such as transport, supermarkets, hospitals and garbage collection will remain open.

New death, finally, seems to be leveling after an aggressive campaign of public health in Mexico _ only confirmed an additional death was announced Wednesday night. However, the World Health Organization said that a global threat, however, serious enough to use for the production of a vaccine against the virus.

"This is really all that humanity is threatened during a pandemic," WHO Director-General Margaret Chan said in Geneva. "We do not have all the answers now, but have access to them."

This was the first time that WHO has declared Phase 5 of the outbreak, the second highest in the scale of the threat, suggesting a pandemic may be imminent.
